Christmas in July
So this is going to get a bit meta, but I was browsing randomnoun.com this afternoon and noticed I haven’t updated it since December last year, which is when I last had some spare time to complain about * checks notes * attempting to rootkit a TV, running a pivot query in mysql, and a litany of failed website ideas that didn’t get off the ground.
So apologies for that, but I haven’t been entirely complacent in the intervening months. I’ve been creating a ‘today I learnt’ ( TIL ) entry every week or so with notes on something new I’ve encountered or, if not new, relatively time consuming that could do with a write-up.
It’s the ‘writing up’ bit that I seem to struggle with though. It takes me a surprising amount of time to convert my disjointed notes into something I think is a bit more palatable to others. So to save myself doing that more unnecessarily than usual, here’s the very first poll on this site, which is to pick which one of these things I’ll rewrite so that it’s
- formatted up nicely,
- understandable to another human being,
- with some tastefully selected images and/or diagrams,
- together with some cleaned up source code, and
- maybe even a github repository and a maven artifact. And of course
- an amusing pun for the blog post title.
Which honestly is sometimes the hardest part of these things. Years spent sitting in front a PC has drained me of all creativity, but I refuse as a matter of principle to farm that out to some LLM.
So anyway, here are the options. You can choose up to three.
- A miscellaneous rant about Kubernetes 30%, 3 votes3 votes 30%3 votes - 30% of all votes
- The bullshit involved in working out disk usage in Sonatype Nexus 20%, 2 votes2 votes 20%2 votes - 20% of all votes
- This isn't an option but I'm using it to test whether the poll is working 20%, 2 votes2 votes 20%2 votes - 20% of all votes
- Kubernetes watches 10%, 1 vote1 vote 10%1 vote - 10% of all votes
- Setting up Home Assistant 10%, 1 vote1 vote 10%1 vote - 10% of all votes
- Load on demand 10%, 1 vote1 vote 10%1 vote - 10% of all votes
- Using Amazon Transcribe to create meeting notes + a HTML player for that 0%, 0 votes0 votes0 votes - 0% of all votes
- Expanding an LVM volume that really doesn't want to expand 0%, 0 votes0 votes0 votes - 0% of all votes
- Faffing about with nested menus on an Elgato Streamdeck 0%, 0 votes0 votes0 votes - 0% of all votes
- Faffing about with Elgato Streamdeck screensavers 0%, 0 votes0 votes0 votes - 0% of all votes
- Caching AJAX responses in jQuery 0%, 0 votes0 votes0 votes - 0% of all votes
- JOL 0%, 0 votes0 votes0 votes - 0% of all votes
- Showing multiple Jacoco coverage runs side-by-side 0%, 0 votes0 votes0 votes - 0% of all votes
- An update to the ExceptionUtils thing to handle git revisions 0%, 0 votes0 votes0 votes - 0% of all votes
- Wordwrap 0%, 0 votes0 votes0 votes - 0% of all votes
So, The Internet, which is it to be ?
I’ve got some leave planned for August, which seems to be when I get around to these things, so if I don’t receive any results in a month or so. I’ll pick one of those and send that off into the void.
Ciao for now
